6 Signs your Body needs to Detox

Written by Nancy

If you’re someone who regularly surfs the web for ways to improve your overall health and wellbeing you’re bound to come across things that ‘rid your body of toxins’. This can be certain foods, exercises or even types of massages that remove toxins from your body.

Ever wondered what exactly toxins are and why it is necessary to remove them?

Well toxins are harmful chemicals that we consume from the environment and the food we eat that prevents our bodies from functioning optimally. The buildup of toxins leads to inflammation in areas of the body, causing stress hormones to be released into the blood stream and deteriorating our physical and mental health as a result. As our physical and mental health declines, we become more susceptible to disease and illnesses.

To prevent the buildup of toxins in our system, we have to detox ourselves.

Here are 6 signs your body needs to detox:

1) You’re constantly tired

It’s not just being “tired”, you’re constantly fatigued – exhausted – and you have no idea why. No amount of sleep seems sufficient. You struggle with concentrating even in the most menial tasks and feel the urge to doze off whenever you get the chance.

This fatigue is a consequence of organs like the liver and intestines not functioning properly – meaning they have lots of toxins that need to be removed.

2) Cravings

If you find yourself dreaming about indulging in food more often than you should be, it’s a sign of your body needs to be detoxed. There’s no denying that emotional eating is real but cravings can come as a response to consuming too much processed foods too. Processed foods are filled with toxins that aren’t good for the body.

3) Depression

Depression, stress and anxiety have all been associated with high levels of toxins. Toxins can clog the release of happy hormones in the body which are necessary to maintain hormonal balance in our system. People who suffer from depression are very likely to have high levels of toxicity.

4) Gas

When your body is having a hard time digesting foods, it’s a big indicator that something isn’t right. Toxins can reduce the production of digestive enzymes that are needed to properly digest food.

5) Increase in weight

An increase in the storage of fat could be the result of a buildup of toxins since they can block the absorption of nutrients. This disrupts the body’s ability to breakdown fat to release energy. As a result, you’ll notice a spike in your weight.

6) Mental instability

Too many toxins in the body can lead to mood swings. You may experiences moments of happiness every now and then and other times you’ll be really down in the dumps. Fluctuating mood is a sign that you’re in need of a detox.

Now that you’ve established whether you need a detox (you probably do), it’s time you take the necessary steps to rid your body of harmful toxins. Watching your diet and exercising are one of the best ways to detox.

Do some research on juice cleanses and exercises that help push the process of detoxification along.
